Can A Tablet Replace Your Laptop?

It seems like tablets are everywhere today, computer giants like Apple and Microsoft have had their tablet computers out on the market for years and now other computer manufactures are coming up with their own versions of tablet computers.  People like tablets because of their simple user interface, extensive touch screen capabilities, and high visual appeal.  Tablets are great for surfing the internet, watching movies, and using it for other media related operations.  Tablet computers may be fun for casual purposes, but when you have to do actual work you may want to put the tablet down and look for desktops and laptops

Less Space
Tablets may be ahead of the curve in terms of touch screen technologies and simple user interface, but when it comes to saving documents and general storage space tablets have a long way to go. Tablet manufacturers have been trying to add more storage space to their devices; but even with improved storage capabilities a tablet is no match for a laptop or desktop.  Your tablet may also not be the best platform for programs like Microsoft Office.  Those types of software programs require a lot of space in order to run, so even if you can fit the program on your tablet it may not run very fast or very well.

No Keyboard
If the storage space issue doesn't bother you, you may think that tablets are good to use for work when you're traveling.  Tablets are known for their small size and relative low weight, today's tablets can weigh less than a pound and they are known for their portability.  Your tablet may be able to travel easily with you, but if your work involves a lot of typing you had better get used to using a stylus or having very precise fingers.  As of right now there are no tablets on the market with a built in keyboard, they have a keyboard interface but it's all on the touch screen. Touch screens have gotten more precise with their movement tracking, but typing 500 word documents or lengthy business reports on a touch screen keyboard will take a lot of time and challenge your sanity.

Image Quality
Laptops and desktops now come with HD monitors so you can do your computing in style.  Tablet screens are somewhat close to HD quality, but that ultimately won't matter much if you have a finger print smudged screen.  If you want your computer to display high quality images, you would be better off with an HD laptop or HD monitor with your desktop set up.
